What you should know about teaching at St. Mary’s
Teaching in a Catholic school combines academic instruction with the mission and values of the Roman Catholic Church. Our educators guide students through a traditional curriculum, mathematics, science, language arts, while integrating Classical Catholic education in faith, ethics, and moral development. Catholic school teachers are not only responsible for academic growth but also serve as role models of Christ-like character, helping to nurture students’ spiritual formation alongside their intellectual development.
Requirements for Catholic school teachers are similar to public school positions, typically including at least a bachelor’s degree in education or a core subject. While state teaching licenses may not be required for all private Catholic schools, teachers are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of Catholic teachings, particularly if they instruct in theology or religious studies. Experience, education, and a commitment to Catholic values strengthen a teacher’s ability to serve both the academic and spiritual needs of students, making faith and professionalism complementary parts of the role.
